I serve as Founding/Artistic Director for Voices Breaking Boundaries, and I produce living room art shows, and also create installations for the productions. November 2010: My most recent installation breaking silences / bearing witness / claiming dignity at VBB's living room art: Women's Voices was held at a historic home in Houston's Sixth Ward. For the production, with the help of my friend OS, I created a 12 foot x 12 foot installation comprised of: archived photographs of the women's protest movement Women's Action Forum (given to me by Abro Khuda Bux) in Pakistan juxtaposed against the protests outside the 1992 Republican National Convention held in Houston (provided to me by Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast). Other images in the installation included photographs of religious extremists in Pakistan (provided by Abro) and extremists protestors outside Planned Parenthood (photos by Planned Parenthood). Included in the installation were testimonials by women about their/our bodies and choices. Additional materials included: construction paper, Pakistan Times (Houston-based Urdu newspaper), paint, charcoal and glue.
