photo of buraq on wooden chest; photograph by Minal
While I visit art collector Anj Rana, Minal walks around her house and documents truck art that’s scattered around Anj’s home.
But later, when I take the image to Mauripur and ask for something similar for the art car that Eric Hester and I are making in Houston, the shopkeeper shakes his head and tells me: “We used to make the buraq image, but now, no-one wants to see a female image transporting the Prophet.” But after I press him, he agrees to make five for me.
Three days later, my photographer friend Abro picks up the images for me. He returns from Mauripur saying: “The shopkeeper is making 100 buraqs! He says he wants to make the image popular again.”
